Child Check-Up Guidelines

For young children, medical visits are recommended on the following schedule:

Infancy Early Childhood
  • Before your baby is born (prenatal).
  • At the time of birth (newborn), including hearing screening.
  • First week.
  • At 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, and 9 months of age.
  • During baby's first year at 12 months, 15 months, and 18 months.
  • Yearly from 2 through 6 years of age.

Also link to the "Encounter" tip sheets developed by Bright Futures to help you prepare for your next visit with your child's doctor.  The "Encounter" forms are available for birth through adolescence and include typical issues your doctor may include in the check up, as well as suggested issues you may want to bring up with your doctor.
