Diabetes Alliance of Idaho Advisory Committee Discussion Notes
Diabetes Alliance of Idaho
The Diabetes Alliance of Idaho (DAI) works together to improve access to quality health care, increase awareness and support through education, and reduce diabetes complications for those challenged with diabetes in Idaho.
The DAI is the statewide diabetes coalition. The Diabetes Alliance of Idaho works to improve access to quality health care, increase awareness and support through education, promote prevention of diabetes and reduce diabetes-related complications for those challenged with diabetes in Idaho.
The Coalition is comprised of healthcare professionals, local health departments, universities, insurance and pharmaceutical companies, and a variety of community-based, voluntary, health and professional organizations.
The DAI is facilitated by the Idaho Diabetes Prevention and Control Program (DPCP), a program within the Department of Health and Welfare. DAI members serve voluntarily on the Diabetes Advisory Committee and workgroups related to DPCP projects.
Members meet formally twice a year in Boise to network, share resources and identify issues and solutions related to diabetes care and management in Idaho. Presenters speak on various diabetes topics.
- Working with podiatrists, ophthalmologists, optometrists and dentists to enlist their aid in promoting the full scope of diabetes screening and testing for their patients.
- Working to increase awareness about Medicare coverage for diabetes self-management (DSMT) and medical nutrition therapy (MNT). Partners such as Regence Blue Shield, Blue Cross,
- AARP and statewide aging organizations help distribute Medicare diabetes coverage materials to providers and patients.
- Development of the Idaho 5-Year Diabetes State Plan. Individuals throughout the state came together to select priorities, goals and offer interventions.
