Clinical Laboratory and X-Ray Certification

The Laboratory Improvement Section provides registration and inspection of clinical laboratories, X-ray facilities, and mammography X-rays.

IBL regulates over 1,000 clinical labs across the state, including hospitals, clinics, doctor's offices, and long-term care facilities. IBL's clinical lab inspector performs inspections for complex laboratories and monitors proficiency test events.

Over 1,600 X-ray facilities in Idaho are regulated by IBL under the Idaho Radiation Control Program. IBL's radiation physicists, trained by the Food and Drug Administration, perform the inspections.

Mammography Registration and Inspection

Mammography facilities are inspected under an agreement with the FDA to perform federal inspections of Idaho mammography sites. These facilities are regulated by the Federal Mammography Quality Standards Act.  The inspections are performed annually and are performed to determine machine accuracy and qualifications of technicians performing exams and radiologists reading film.
