Academic Detailing

The Idaho Medicaid Pharmacy Unit was awarded a $50,000 grant in 2009 from The Prescription Project to support an Academic Detailing pilot program to provide targeted educational outreach to prescribers of mental health medications. Idaho Medicaid’s Academic Detailing program provides one-on-one pharmacist-to-prescriber in person visits with evidence-based verbal and written educational information. Detailing visits on Treatment of ADHD started in July 2009, followed by Antiepileptics for Mood Disorder in October 2009 and Second Generation Antidepressants in March 2010. As of 12-31-2010, 124 prescriber visits have been completed.
