Why are children more sensitive to environmental pollution than adults?
Children are not little adults. They are more sensitive to environmental pollution because:
- Pound for pound of body weight, children drink more water, eat more food, and breathe more air than adults.
- Children are more likely to put their hands in their mouths, exposing them to more contaminants than adults.
- Children play close to the ground, increasing their exposure to chemicals in dust, soil, water, and air.
