Healthy Worksites

Employers play an important role in workplace employee wellness efforts.  The hours that one spends at work should be hours that support their health and wellbeing.  There are many economic benefits that are incentives to employers that have healthy employees.

  • One review cited that worksites with health promotion programs saved an average of $3.72 on health care costs for every $1 invested in worksite wellness programs
  • Studies show an average of $5.06 saved on absenteeism for every $1 invested in worksite wellness
  • Average of 30% reduction in worker’s compensation and disability claims costs
  • Increased worker productivity and retention

By investing in worksite wellness initiatives, employers not only help their bottom line, but can also play a powerful role in supporting a healthy lifestyle for their employees.

In order to build the most effective and appropriate worksite wellness program, it is important for an employer to conduct a baseline assessment of current practices.  The CDC Worksite Health Scorecard is an established assessment that will identify areas of strength and areas for improvement in your program.  The Scorecard can be taken online or downloaded as a PDF.

The seven Idaho Public Health Districts are currently working with employers in their area to complete the CDC Worksite Health Scorecard, create action plans, and assist in wellness program implementation.  If you are interested in working with your health district for these services, please see the contact information below.
