Cytomegalovirus: Preventing the #1 Viral Cause of Birth Defects
Attendees will leave the workshop with an understanding of how to identify who is at high risk for contracting CMV, how it is spread, and the top five things to do to avoid the transmission of the virus to an unborn fetus. They will also understand some easy ways to share this information with others in order to promote awareness and prevention.
Dr. Rebekah Hall, PSY.D is the parent of a 5-year-old girl who is permanently and profoundly disabled because of a congenital CMV infection. Since learning about the prevalence and preventability of CMV, she has helped found the Idaho CMV Advocacy Project and in 2017 helped pass Idaho's first legislation towards greater awareness of the virus. With her background as a clinical psychologist working with children and families, Rebekah is uniquely suited to be an advocate and educator on this topic.
