Electronic Visit Verification (EVV)

Electronic Visit Verification (EVV)

Section 12006 of the 21st Century Cures Act mandates states to implement an Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) systems for all Personal Care Services (PCS) and home health services that require an in-home visit by a provider.

ALERT:

Subject: EVV Claim Denial Date Moved to 9/1/2021

The July 1 date for EVV-related claims to deny has been postponed to September 1, 2021.

The purpose of this delay is to allow providers additional time to complete the testing and credentialing process with Sandata, the state’s EVV aggregator vendor, and to ensure that their business practices support the use of EVV and successful claims processing. Providers are strongly encouraged to begin submitting “live” or “production” EVV data as soon as production credentials are issued to allow ample time to resolve business practice or system issues that may result in claims denying or not processing as expected after September 1, 2021.

Providers, please do not wait until September 1 to submit production data. Doing so has a high likelihood of your claims denying. Submitting production data well in advance of the claims denial date ensures you have plenty of time for trial and error.

EVV Requirements

The EVV system must be compatible with the state’s aggregator and capture the following six data elements:

  1. Type of service performed;
  2. Individual receiving the service;
  3. Date of service;
  4. Location of service delivery;
  5. Individual providing the service;
  6. Time the service begins and ends
