Facility Fire Safety & Construction

This program provides oversight and management of the facility fire safety and building construction (FFS&C) requirements for all state licensed and/or federally certified health care facilities.  To accomplish these tasks, FFS&C staff perform facility plans reviews and approvals, on-site plan inspections/finalizations, consultations, and periodic facility fire and safety surveys, including complaint/fire investigations.  At present, our scope of responsibilitiy includes:

  • Ambulatory Surgery Centers
  • Hospitals
  • Nursing Facilities
  • Intermediate Care Facilities for Persons with Mental Retardation
  • End Stage Renal Disease Facilities
  • Residential Care or Assisted Living Facilties

Smoke detector testing; in addition to annual function testing, sensitivity testing is also required, electronic or written records must be maintained.  Please ensure your fire alarm contractor is conducting sensitivity testing and providing you with a record or report.  This is also known as calibration testing. For more information please see NFPA 72, 1999 Edition, Section 7-3.2.1
