By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

1. Distinguish between normal blood pressure, prehypertension and hypertension.
2. Understand current recommendations for follow-up based on initial blood pressure readings.
3. List the lifestyle modifications that can help to prevent and/or reduce high blood pressure.
4. Understand and describe the proper use and maintenance of blood pressure equipment.
5. Understand the current issues regarding the use of mercury sphygmomanometers
   and how to respond to mercury spills.
6. Define and describe the phases of Korotkoff and their use in blood pressure measurement.
7. Define Auscultatory Gap and Maximum Inflation Level (MIL).
8. Determine systolic and diastolic criteria for measuring blood pressure.
9. Perform correct blood pressure measurement technique according to current evidence-based guidelines established by leading authorities in the field of hypertension detection and evaluation.

1. Take the pre-test.
2. Review the provider materials.
3. Watch the Blood Pressure Sights & Sounds video.  Place a copy of the "Summary of Blood Pressure Measurement Technique" from page 10 of the provider materials in view.  This will be used as a guide while following along with the video presentation.  
4. Take the post-test.   
5. Complete the online Blood Pressure Toolkit evaluation form.  Note: the evaluation form will only become available after watching the video.  
6. Insert your name on the Certificate of Completion and print the form.  Note: the certificate will only become available after submitting the Blood Pressure Toolkit evaluation. 
7. Visit the online Material Order Form and order FREE patient education materials.

1. Print copies of the provider materials for each participant. 
2. Make two copies of the printable test for each participant.  Mark one as the pre-test and the other as post-test.
3. Ask each participant to take the pre-test.
4. Allow participants to review the provider materials.
5. Show the Blood Pressure Sights & Sounds video. Encourage participants to place a copy of the"Summary of Blood Pressure Measurement Technique" from page 10 of the provider materials in view.  This will be used as a guide to follow along with the video presentation.  
6. After the video ask participants to take the post-test.  Using the answer key at the bottom of the test allow participants to grade their own tests.
7. Encourage participants to practice the blood pressure measurement technique on each other.
8. Complete the online Blood Pressure Toolkit evaluation form on behalf of the group.  Participants will need to come to a consensus on answers.  Note: the evaluation form will only become available after watching the video.  
9. Insert participants' names on the Certificate of Completion and print a copy for each participant who wish to receive a certificate.  Note: the certificate will only become available after submitting the Blood Pressure Toolkit evaluation form.
10. Visit the online Material Order Form and order FREE patient education materials.
