About Community Builders

Community Builders connects local businesses, organizations, and neighbors with opportunities to support foster, kinship, and adoptive families across Idaho. Together, we turn everyday community support into meaningful connections that help families feel valued, supported, and connected to their communities.

Partner with us

Community Builders is a relationship-centered outreach effort that invites individuals, families, businesses, civic groups, churches, and organizations to partner with the Department of Health and Welfare in supporting foster, kinship, and adoptive families across Idaho.

Not everyone is called to foster — but everyone can help. Community Builders highlights meaningful ways the community can step in to strengthen families, reduce isolation, and help children experience connection, stability, and belonging.

What is Community Builders?

Community Builders creates a network of care around foster, kinship, and adoptive families by connecting community partners with practical, impactful ways to give back.

Through service, giving, collaboration, and creativity, partners help support families navigating foster care — whether by volunteering time, sharing resources, opening doors to experiences, or contributing essential supplies.

All contributions are coordinated through approved nonprofit partners to ensure support reaches families where it’s needed most.

How you can make an impact

There are many ways to get involved. Community Builders partners choose the approach that best fits their mission, capacity, and passion.

Give time through volunteering

Support foster, kinship, and adoptive families by volunteering at family events, outdoor activities, celebrations, or behind-the-scenes efforts. Every hour helps build connection and create positive experiences for families.

Support projects

Help bring meaningful initiatives to life by sponsoring or supporting projects such as:

  • Family recreation and enrichment opportunities
  • Literacy, sports, or creative programs for youth
  • Special events, holiday gatherings, or back-to-school efforts
  • Programs that promote family bonding and well-being
Share your space

Open your doors to create moments of joy and belonging by offering:

  • Free or discounted admission to attractions or events
  • Event or meeting space for family gatherings
  • One-time or recurring experiences for families
Give supplies

Donated supplies help meet immediate needs and restore dignity for children and youth entering care. Items such as hygiene kits, new clothing, backpacks, school supplies, and independent-living starter items directly support families through regional resource closets.

Why Community Builders matters

Community support strengthens foster families, improves retention, and helps children feel seen, supported, and included. In 2025 alone, Community Builders partners helped serve thousands of foster, kinship, and adoptive families through experiences, supplies, and opportunities that made a real difference.

Together, we can build joy, connection, and opportunity for Idaho’s foster, kinship, and adoptive families one helping hand at a time.
