About Substance Use Disorders Services

The Department partners with Regional Advisory Committees to assess regional needs and assets for substance use disorders prevention and treatment services. The partnership highlights local service priorities, communicates available resources and coordinates services across public agencies and community organizations.

Services are delivered through contracts by private and public agencies with a focus on best practices and evidence-based programs.

Substance use disorders prevention services use an array of strategies to target populations, ranging from early childhood to adults. Prevention services are designed to foster development of anti-use attitudes and beliefs and to facilitate the development of social and learning skills.

The goal of treatment services is to eliminate the dependence on alcohol and other drugs.

Help is available if you or a member of your family needs assistance with a drug or alcohol problem.  The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare provides funds to treatment providers throughout the state.

Call 1-800-922-3406 for a screening and referral to an approved treatment facility; it is possible to be assisted with the call at the facility.
