About Birth Records

The Idaho Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics maintains birth certificates filed from July 1911 to the present. Our bureau provides certified copies of birth records for events that occurred within the state of Idaho.

Why Your Birth Certificate Matters

As a U.S. citizen, your birth certificate is one of your most essential documents. A certified copy serves as official proof of your citizenship and age, which are often required to verify your identity. You may need it for:

  • Applying for a passport
  • Accessing government benefits
  • Enrolling in school
  • Joining the military
  • Claiming pension or insurance benefits
