Idaho kids in foster care have the chance to meet and kick around with Boise State University student-athletes on the famous BLUE turf at Albertsons Stadium.
The event, hosted by the Department of Health and Welfare, Boise State University, and Freedom Youth Foundation, will be Thursday, Oct. 17, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“We’re excited to announce this special event, which will bring together foster children and foster families from across Idaho for an unforgettable experience on the iconic BLUE turf at Albertsons Stadium,” said DHW Director Alex Adams. “This unique opportunity will allow youth in foster care and their families to meet and interact with Boise State’s student-athletes.”
The event will feature games, activities, and personal time with approximately 60 student-athletes from Boise State’s football, softball, gymnastics, golf, beach volleyball, soccer, and other sports. The goal is to provide a fun and encouraging environment for foster children and their families while highlighting the importance of positive role models and community support.
“We’re thrilled to welcome foster families to Albertsons Stadium for this special day,” said Boise State Associate Athletic Director Sara Whiles. “Our student-athletes are eager to spend time with these incredible kids and their families, and we hope this event will inspire everyone who comes.”
Shane Hanson is president and CEO of Freedom Youth Foundation, an organization that brings kids in foster care together through involvement in sports.
“I’ve personally watched foster kids flourish on sports fields,” Hanson said. “Sports empower youth by providing them with tools, skills, and support they need to build successful futures. Meeting student-athlete role models will further enhance that experience.”
In addition to meeting student-athletes, families will enjoy autograph sessions, and opportunities for photos on the BLUE turf.
Kids should wear athletic shoes and dress for the weather.
