FAQ

Current openings

How do I see a list of your current openings?

You can see all of our current job openings and apply online. Announcements will specify if a position is full-time, part-time, or temporary.

Do I have to re-apply to be considered for new openings?

Yes.

Application process

How do I apply for a job?

If you are an External Applicant (do not currently work for the State of Idaho) and you see a position you're interested in on our external job posting site, you can apply by selecting the Apply Now button on the job announcement and completing all the steps associated with the position.

If you are an Internal Applicant (current State of Idaho employee with Luma access), you will log in to Luma and:

  • Click on Opportunities
  • Search Open Jobs
  • Click the blue Apply button
I've applied. What happens now?

If you applied online, you are able to follow the status of every position you apply for by accessing your online account.

May I just send a resume?

No. State jobs require a State of Idaho Employment Application and completion of the attestation questions. Sometimes a resume is also required; each job announcement contains instructions on how to apply and what information is necessary to complete the process.

I live out of state; can I apply for a job? How do I interview?

DHW accepts applications from anyone, no matter what their location. Job interviews are arranged by the manager doing the hiring. As an out-of-area applicant, if you are asked to interview, you are welcome to inquire about telephone or virtual interviews.

Why did I receive an exam score if I didn't take an exam?

The exam score is based off of the attestation questions you answered. If you received a score, you will be referred to the hiring managers. This does not guarantee an interview. The hiring manager will reach out to you directly if they wish to schedule an interview.  If you do not pass the exam, you will be notified by email.

Where can I get more information about the state hiring process?

For an overview of the state hiring process, visit the Idaho Division of Human Resources.

Job requirements

How do I know what is required for a position?

Minimum qualifications (requirements) are listed on each job announcement.

Do you have to be a state employee to apply for jobs?

No. Only jobs that have been announced Department Promotional or Statewide Promotional are limited to DHW or state of Idaho employees. Most of our job announcements are open to the public.

Do you need a degree or licensure to work for DHW?

Not necessarily. Many of our positions only require experience and/or completion of related training. You can see all job requirements on the job announcement under minimum qualifications.

The job announcement says applicants need to be licensed as a social worker in Idaho. What are the requirements for obtaining licensure?

For questions regarding social worker licensure, you will need to contact the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses at https://dopl.idaho.gov.
